Somewhere in Indonesia today, a surgeon is waiting on a blood bag that hasn’t arrived yet. A mother is bleeding after childbirth. A child with thalassemia is due for another transfusion, as they have been every few weeks since birth. None of them know it, but their odds may depend on whether enough people, in enough places, decided to donate.

That gap between supply and need is not abstract. Indonesia’s ideal blood requirement, calculated using the World Health Organization benchmark of roughly 2 percent of the population, comes to about 5.6 million bags a year. As of 2025, national availability sat at around 4.4 million bags, according to Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, leaving a shortfall of more than a million bags that donors are still being asked to close.

At PT Lautan Natural Krimerindo (LNK), blood donation is not treated as a one-time activity. The initiative has been carried out regularly since 2015, with blood donation activities held every three months. Through this recurring initiative, LNK provides its employees with regular opportunities to contribute to those who need blood.

On September 14, 2026, LNK held a blood donation activity in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Mojokerto Regency. Almost 90 employees showed up to give blood that day, lining up, filling out screening forms, and waiting their turn on the donor chairs, the same way they had three months earlier and will again in three months’ time.

It’s a number that tells its own story about consistency. Blood drives can draw a crowd once, out of novelty. Getting people to return, quarter after quarter, is a different kind of achievement, one that says the culture, not the occasion, is what’s pulling people in.

The initiative also received support from LNK’s leadership, with the CEO of LNK taking part as a blood donor. His participation reflected the company’s support for the initiative and encouraged eligible employees to take an active role in contributing to the wider community. For employees, donating blood may take only a small amount of time from their day. Yet that small contribution can become part of something much bigger. A single donation can help support someone facing a critical moment, making the act meaningful beyond the workplace.

The activity also brought employees together around a shared purpose. Colleagues from different parts of LNK participated side by side, turning an individual act of giving into a collective effort. Every employee who chooses to donate becomes part of a wider effort to support people who need blood.

Looking ahead, LNK hopes to see more employees who meet the eligibility requirements take part in future blood donation activities. Greater participation would mean more blood bags collected and, ultimately, a greater contribution to those who need them. For LNK, encouraging blood donation is not simply about holding a recurring activity. It is about creating opportunities for employees to give, supporting a meaningful cause, and building a culture of care that extends beyond the workplace.
